Whats on in the theatre?

As a makeup artist, we are always looking to see different shows and makeup techniques used to create the look of characters. To create the look of a character, this is mainly used in Theatre productions and shows. Some shows that are playing at the moment which may include some of the looks and skills used by makeup we would be looking for is:

Shrek: The Musical - Shown at the Kings Theatre Glasgow Wed 13- Sun 17 May 2015

Scottish Ballet: Autumn 2015 (Elsa Canasta and Motion of Displacement) - Shown at Theatre Royal Glasgow Thu 24 - Sat 26 September 2015

Snow White - Shown at the  Kings Theatre Glasgow Fri 04 - Sun 10 Dec 2015

Vampires Rock - Ghost Train - Shown Kings Theatre Glasgow Sat 06 Feb 2016

What Questions Would You Ask A Professional Make Up Artist?

If I had the chance to ask a top makeup artist five questions I would ask:

1) How did you find getting in to the industry? What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

2) Did you feel that your makeup skills were at a potential and high level when you first started working in the industry or did that come in time with experience?

3) What advice would you have to gain confidence and skill level for makeup artistry?

4) Would it be worthwhile to try getting into a makeup counter to gain experience and watch how the industry works?

5) Do you feel a difference from working in the industry employed to being freelance? what do you prefer and why?

Wigs used in movies!

Hairspray : This movie has majority of the characters wearing wigs. Including guys and girls.

Another film that wigs are used to create characters is Hunger Games. The character Effie Trinket is played by Elizabeth Banks. She is fitted with multiple different wigs throughout each movie.

One more movie where wigs are fitted and used is Alice and Wonderland. Johnny Depp plays the character "The Mad Hatter" This wild and vibrant wig expresses his character and gives him his overall look for his appearance for his character.

Makeup and Special Effects from Movies :

One of my favourite Special Effects from a movie is from Batman: The Dark Knight. There character with the special effects used for the character is on actor Heath Ledger, as the character of The Joker.

Using latex and prosthetics to create this look for each scene he appeared before having his face painted to become the joker.

Other Special Effects from movies : Hellboy. The character "Hellboy" played by Ron Perlman where there is prosthetic pieces added and a bald cap to cover over to create the effect of his look.

Another Character from the same film Abe Sapien is a character that using prothetics and special effects to create his character look. Played by Doug Jones.

A different film I picked was the famous Christmas themed film The Grinch. Jim Carey who plays "The Grinch" is transformed by the use of special effects to completely change his appearance to create his character.

Also, a famous television series "The Walking Dead" has hundreds of characters and actors where they have special effects used to create there appearance.
